Commissioned by the present owner’s family (friends of the artist);

The McKelveys were frequent guests of a Northern Ireland hotel, run by the present
owner’s family who were admirers of the artist’s work. As a result, a friendship grew and
several family portraits were commissioned during the 1960s and the present
commission.The portrait of President Kennedy was based on a series of photographs
supplied by the patron to McKelvey.The portrait was commissioned after Kennedy’s
assassination in 1963.
