1655 Cromwellian soldier sells his land grant to Robert Browne, Carlow.

One page document. “Know all men by these presents, I Ralph Eames late soldier in Colonel Prittie’s Troops”.

The document goes on to state his term of service in Ireland from “ ye twenty seventh day of August 1649

to ye Eleventh day of August 1650” Signed by Ralph Eames with seal intact. “Attorney present at ye Signing,

Sealing and Delivery, (signed) Timothy Thompson”.

Colonel Henry Prittie of Cromwell’s New Model Army had his regiment based in Carlow. In 1650 he served

as High Sheriff and in 1652 was appointed Governor of Carlow. In 1666 he was granted Dunalley Castle and

estates in Tipperary by King Charles 11. His descendants are the present-day Baron’s of Dunalley.
