WHYTE'S in association with CHRISTIE'S - The Ernie O'Malley Collection MONDAY 25 November 2019

3 THE ERNIE O’MALLEY COLLECTION · 25 NOVEMBER 2019 AT 6PM Whyte’s is delighted to offer The Ernie O’Malley Collection in this very special auction in Dublin. By working together, Ireland’s leading auction house and Christie’s, the world’s leading auction house hope to bring to collectors everywhere a fascinating insight into an Irish national hero turned cultural doyen, and the opportunity to own wonderful pieces of art with a fascinating historical provenance. Jack Butler Yeats is Ireland’s greatest ever painter, and here, in his friend’s and patron’s collection, you will find some of his greatest masterpieces. You will also find a range of small but beautiful sketches by this great master, at prices that will encourage new collectors to own a work by Jack Yeats. This is exactly how Yeats wanted his art to be disseminated – he painted large oils for his wealthy patrons but insisted on creating drawings and prints that all could afford. We do hope that we are fulfilling his wishes. The other artists represented in this sale are a Who’s Who of 1930s to 1950s Irish art, including Mainie Jellett, Evie Hone, Louis le Brocquy, Colin Middleton, Norah McGuinness, all of whom Ernie O’Malley knew, reviewed, encouraged and patronised early in their careers. The art world should be forever grateful for collectors like Ernie O’Malley. We will bring a selection of works to Christie’s, New York and London, before offering the entire collection at Whyte’s in Dublin. We look forward to meeting as many collectors as possible at these events where we and our team will be happy to introduce you to these marvellous creations and the stories behind them.
