They contain aspects of portraiture but are really a protracted study of the human presence - more
usually sad, heavy or bewildered than happy, whimsical or carefree. The eyes vary… dreamy,
melancholy, averted, direct, vulnerable, defant. At one extreme we meet a blank dislocated gaze, at the
other a fxed stare. These are infectiously appealing works characterised by honesty of enquiry,
