A small collection of Irish regimental cutlery including Leitrim Rifles
hallmarked silver salt spoon by John Smyth of Dublin. Armagh Artillery
tablespoon, Royal Tyrone Artillery tablespoon and fork, all three
electroplate silver by Elkington. (4 items)

1894: 5th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles silver napkin ring Hallmarked
silver.
An attractive silver napkin ring, hallmarked Sheffield 1894, and engraved
with the crest of the 5th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles and "E. J. K.
Cordner" underneath. Also with a silk handkerchief embroidered with a
crest of the Royal Irish Rifles and an Irish Rifles cap badge of modern
production. (3 items)
Edward James Kennedy Cordner was born on the Isle of Wight, the son
of a Major General in the Bengal Artillery. He served with the 5th
Battalion Royal Irish Rifles reaching the rank of Captain and also worked
as Assistant District Commissioner in Nigeria until 1907. On retirement
he returned to his place of birth where he died in December 1937.

1875-1904: British militia and Imperial Yeomanry silver presentation
cups
Silver presentation goblet hallmarked London 1869, inscribed "Lord
Walter Campbell's Prize to the 12th Argyle Artillery Volunteer Corps,
Furnace, won by Sergeant Peter Drew, October 1875" (8oz). Also twin
handled presentation cup made by Fenton brothers, hallmarked Sheffield
1903. Inscribed "Surrey (Princess of Wales) Imperial Yeomanry, recruits
musketry cup, won by Trooper Ince 1904, presented by the officers of
the regiment" (12oz) (2 items)

1905: Militia Rifle Association silver goblet presented to Colonel Sir
W. H. Mahon of Galway
Silver presentation goblet hallmarked London 1905. Inscribed "Militia
Rifle Association Revolver Cup 1905, won by Col. Sir W. H. Mahon, Bart
D.S.O., 4th Bn. West Yorkshire Regiment". Colonel Sir William Henry
Mahon of Castlegar Co. Galway, was born in 1856 and served during the
Boer War where he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order while
commanding the 4th West Yorkshire Regiment. He was also Deputy
Lieutenant for County Galway and died in 1926. The diaries and papers
of W. H. Mahon are held by the National Library of Ireland (9oz) 9in.

1895: Antrim Artillery Officers' Mess letter and bill holder
A unique and beautifully produced large wooden letter and bill holder.
With 24 compartments surmounted by an engraved Antrim Artillery
crest with shamrock, thistle, roses and cannons either side and the
monograms EP and AA. A small plaque placed between the crest and
compartments bears the inscription "Presented by Colonel Pottinger
1895".
Colonel Eldred T. Pottinger CMG had a distinguished career with the
Royal Artillery and was a well known Irish gentleman. After his
retirement from the Royal Artillery he lived in Portrush, was captain of
Royal Portrush Golf Club and also commanded the Antrim Artillery . He

A scarce history of the Royal Irish Rifles completed in 1897. Profusely
illustrated with large full page photographs of each company of the
battalion, the regimental shooting team, Tug-of-War team, Officers,
Sergeants, band, buglers etc. All complete with names. An excellent
historical and genealogical resource. 11 x 13in. (27.94 x 33.02cm)
