inauguration invitation & programme
A scarce 1953 invitation to the presidential inauguration of Dwight
Eisenhower and Richard Nixon complete with original envelope and
corresponding inauguration ceremonies programme. Also with Betty
Grable autographed photograph, Maureen O’Hara autograph on card and
1939 press photograph of Joseph Stalin with German and Russian
politicians including von Ribbentrop (5 items)

1960-61: John F. Kennedy letter and inauguration address broadsheet
A scarce broadsheet titled “The Inauguration Address of John Fitzgerald
Kennedy. President of the United States. Washington, D.C. January 20,
1961.” published by a group of Senators and Congressmen following the
assasination of Kennedy in 1963 and given to keen Kennedy supporters
within the Democratic Party. This example was the property of
Congressman St. Onge. A personal friend of Kennedy. Also with typed
letter to Congressman St. Onge on Kennedy for President Committee
letterhead paper. Dated November 18, 1960. Interesting content relating
to the Presidential election and plans after inauguration. (2 items)

1960: Collection of John F Kennedy campaign letters
Collection of 5 letters. 2 to Miss Charlotte Ward. Thanking her for the
work done on behalf of his candidacy for her help during his visit to
Pennsylvania. A letter to Mr. Ralph H. Hanks thanking him for his
support and the organisation of Farmers for Kennedy-Johnson campaign.
Another to Hon John A. Notte, Jr. Governor of Rhode Island extending
his appreciation to members of the Senate of the State of Rhode Island
for their efforts in securing his victory in the Wisconsin Presidential
Primary. And a final typed letter to Governor Notte dated March 10,
1960. Signed ‘Larry O’Brien’ Assistant to Senator Kennedy. The first four
signed in the name of Kennedy probably by his secretary.

golf bag, Chief Executive’s Desk Set, event calendar bearing the fateful
notation “10:45 depart South Lawn for Texas etc. Invitation card with
Seal of Presidency embossed in gilt. Jacqueline Kennedy Sympathy Card.
Veterans Association Certificate, issued eight days before JFK’s
assasination, to honour the memory of Jacob Nickel with embossed Seal
of Office of Presidency and a set of original cufflinks & tiepin issued by
the Democrat National Committee to celebrate the election of JFK in

1963: John F Kennedy in Ireland press photographs collection
Monochrome photographs, various sizes. A unique and excellent album
of high quality Irish Press photographs taken during John Fitzgerald
Kennedy’s visit to Ireland in 1963. Including his arrival at Dublin Airport,
meeting with Eamon de Valera and with Sean Lemass, cavalcade
traveling through Irish streets, addressing the Dáil, Arbour Hill, Áras an
Uachtaráin, in Wexford including placing a wreath at the John Barry
statue, in Limerick and Cork receiving the Freedom of the City and many
others. Numerous images from each event showing a relaxed and happy
Kennedy just a few months before his death. Also with other Kennedy
photographs including family photographs, Ted Kennedy’s car accident
and wire photographs relating to JFK’s death and funeral. (110 items)

1974. Portrait of President Erskine Childers(1905-1974) by Bernard
Mortell ATCH
Charcoal and chalk on red coloured paper, framed. President Childers
died on 17 November 1974, just over a month after he was presented
with the portrait. Son of Robert Erskine Childers, English born author,
naval officer and Irish Republican revolutionary who was executed by
the Provisional Government during the civil War, Erskine Childers was a
distinguished Fianna Fáil politician and served in several governments
under Eamon de Valera, Sean Lemass and Jack Lynch. He served as
Tanaiste under Jack Lynch and was elected President of Ireland in May
1973.
Bernard Mortell is better known for his sculpture, his best known work
being
Red Sails at Sunset
at Dun Laoghaire seafront. He is also known
for writing poetry and plays. A newspaper cutting from the
Irish
Independent
, dated 4 October 1974, with a photograph of President
Childers accepting the portrait from the artist, is also with this lot. 18.50
x 15in. (46.99 x 38.10cm)

President’s staff; thence by descent.
