Spence
An extremely attractive and decorative piece of prisoner art painted on
glass. With the crest of the Royal Irish Rifles flanked by two buglers and
titled “In Immortal Memory” of the 9th Battalion West Belfast
Volunteers, part of the 36th (Ulster) Division. Inscribed on reverse “Gusty

1972 Long Kesh ‘Gusty Spence’ Royal Irish Rifles signed artwork
Another piece of framed prisoner art on glass. With the badge of the
Royal Irish Rifles flanked on four sides by the crests of Cyprus, Tripoli,
Germany and Northern Ireland Command. Signed on the reverse “Gusty

1970s Long Kesh UVF flag made by Gusty Spence and other prisoners
Large flag made surreptitiously in Long Kesh by Spence with other
prisoners and used at parades and other events. Designed in order to
avoid confiscation with the St George’s Cross upper left and with U.V.F.
and star symbol also incorporated. With a photograph of Spence in
uniform holding a similar flag. 35 x 50in. (88.90 x 127cm)
