Esq., deceased; also, of the beautiful decorative furniture and
service of plate: which (by order of the executors) will be sold
by auction, by Messrs. Christie & Manson, at the mansion, No.
93 Eaton Square, commencing on Monday, March the 5th,
1855, at one o’clock precisely. (1855)
With 34 plates, 357-pages, 8vo, original red cloth, neatly
rebacked: a very good copy.
Bernal (d. 1854), politician but better known as a art collector in glass,
plate, china, armour and miniatures. Following his death an
unsuccessful attempt was made to secure his extensive collection for the
nation. The catalogue extends to 4294 lots, many with prices realised
entered in a contemporary hand, and realised almost £71,000 over
thirty-two days. J. R. Planché contributes a prefatory eulogy of Bernal’s
taste and knowledge.

though bound without the half-title, 8vo, contemporary half
morocco, gilt, top edges gilt, other edges uncut: the binding
neatly and recently repaired and with very light suggestion of
foxing in the text and very light suggestion of fingering in
places, but still a very good copy of a book rarely found in fine
state.
The first American edition of an important surgical atlas by the great
physiologist. Copies of the 1861 edition were distributed to every
surgeon in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

“This Irish manuscript, preserved in Milan and here reproduced in
excellent facsimile, has long been familiar to Irish scholars on account of
the interlinear and marginal glosses in which it abunds, and which form
one of the chief and most copious sources for the study of the Old-Irish
language. ` - Introduction. Best discusses the contents (primarily the
commentaries on the Psalter), authorship, foliation of the codex, Latin
orthography, syllabification, script, abbreviations, the second glossator,
date and origin of the manuscript. There is also a short introduction to
codex Taurinensis F IV 1, fasc. 7, the commentary on St. Mark.
