Dedicated to William Butterfield, in whose office Davie was a pupil,
and reflecting Butterfield interests in its plates of coloured tiles and
mediaeval gold and enamel church furnishings. Davie’s drawings of
French gothic mouldings and details are in rather a different vein.

to nice copy, inscribed on front flyleaf “Lady Ferguson / from
Aubrey de Vere / May 3. 1880”.
His most ambitious work, first published, posthumously, in 1847. His
son republished it in 1875, with a 9-page memoir of his father and a 32-
pp introduction to the verse drama. In this present volume, we have the
preliminary leaves, the memoir and the introduction only, in an original
publisher’s unlettered binding, gilt: presumably this specially prepared
volume was intended for circulation amongst close family and friends
with a view to possible corrections.
