complete thus in spite of pagination jumps, though without the
two half-titles,2 vols, 4to, bound in 1, small old circular stamp
on first title, finely and strongly bound in full early 19C dark
olive green morocco, gilt bordered sides, fully gilt and lettered
spine, edges gilt, silk marker: some light foxing in places and the
attractive binding a little scratched at corners but very strong
and still rather attractive: a large and very good to nice copy.

very good to nice copy in original state, inscribed at foot of title
in a contemporary hand, “All Vmo. Sigr. Tommaso
Buonaventuri / l’autore”.
A wide-ranging series of discourses by the noted Florentine critic,
pedagogue and member of the Accademia della Crusca: complete in
itself, two further collections were issued in 1712 and 1733. Salvini
(1653-1729), a graduate from Pisa, later professor of Greek at Florence,
renowned for his Tuscan dictionary, the Vocabolario and also as a
translator of Addison.

This, Michael du Fay’s edition of Lucretius, is one of the scarcest of the
Delphin Classic quartos. Brunet regards it highly but Ebert considers it
one of the very worst in the series.

backed marbled boards, with leather spine label, gilt: with old
light browning and staining but otherwise a very good copy, but
without the portrait usually found in this edition.
Originally published in New York in 1807, this second edition was used
for the first English edition of 1832. Sampson (1764-1836), United
Irishman, lawyer, political activist, born in Derry city. Although
arrested in 1798 he was never brought to trial but was exiled to Portugal
in 1799 and, after various wanderings on the continent, was re-arrested
in England and exiled again to America in 1806. He was quickly
admitted to the New York Bar and soon became prominent in that city’s
legal and political circles.

WorldCat locates only a single copy: D - to which COPAC adds L and
C. Hull (1801-86), native of Co Down, educated at Trinity College,
Dublin, Church of Ireland minister in Antrim before moving to
Scotland and England, father of Edward Hull, the noted geologist. This
was his first published volume of verse.
