Foxon D374. This first and only 18C Irish printing of a work first
published in folio at London earlier in the same year is rare: ESTC
locates four copies: D, O; MH-H, PU and Foxon adds ICN. In 1726,
mortified by Walpole’s recent failure to nominate him to the newly
revived knighthood of the Bath, he published this epistle to the minister
which, though complimentary, conveyed the pointed message that
loyalty outshone merit as a qualification for advancement
