Pyle describes an earlier watercolour by Yeats entitled
A Political
Meeting, County Sligo, 1905
[catalogue no. 517, p.135] of the same
subject matter.
The present work dates to 1913 and may have been based on the
earlier 1905 watercolour which the artist was clearly pleased with.Yeats
regularly revisited his sketchbooks and drawings throughout his career
basing many of his later more abstracted canvases on scenes recorded
several years previous.
