As a young man W. B.Yeats studied at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art (1884-85) and
at the RHA painting schools (1886), before turning to writing as a fulltime occupation. A
number of his pastel drawings and oils are in institutional collections, and several others
were sold with the contents of his daughter Anne Yeats’ estate, in 2002.The present
example is thought to be a depiction of the two Gore-Booth sisters, Eva and Constance.
