Germanicus, also called Germanicus Julius Caesar, original name Nero Claudius Drusus Germanicus, (15 BC— 19 AD), nephew and adopted son of the Roman emperor Tiberius (14–37 AD). He was a successful and immensely popular general who, had it not been for his premature death, would have become emperor. Claudius (41-54 AD) was his brother, and he was father to the emperor Gaius Caligula (37–41 AD). Estimate €100-€120 approx (£90-£100 approx.) When his uncle, the emperor Honorius, died in 423, the usurper John ruled for two years before he was deposed. Then his mother Placidia controlled the West in her young son’s name until 437, after which the powerful patrician Flavius Aetius became the effective ruler.
