Gilbert, John T, FSA MRIA, (Ed.), HMSO, London, 1889, 8vo, 4, [v]-liii, 470, 39 pp, green paper covered boards gilt. The Augustinian abbey of St Thomas the Martyr lay outside the medieval walls of Dublin, just off modern-day Thomas Street. It was founded by William FitzAldelm, Custos of Ireland, on behalf of Henry II, in 1177. The abbey followed the Victorine rule, like St Augustine’s Abbey in Bristol, with which it was closely associated. It was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1539.
