WHYTE'S IRISH ART 28 MAY 2018

240 Daniel Shaw-Smith (b.1978) NORTHSIDE QUEUE, 2002 pencil and watercolour signed with initials and dated lower right 7 by 14.75in. (17.8 by 37.5cm) Born in Dublin, Shaw-Smith obtained a BA in printmaking from NCAD and a master’s in fine art from Byam Shaw School of Art, London. Shaw-Smith works mostly with figurative imagery, creating narrative based paintings of strange occurrences in ordinary settings, such as front gardens, laneways and street corners. He paints and prints with a semi-naive style, which highlights the slightly surreal nature of his work. Of his work for the CAP Foundation Award which he received in 2001 he has said, “…I prefer to see the two sides of the Liffey not as opposites but of black and white, but more perhaps like the black and white of Chinese Ying and Yang, in that one depends on the other and contains something of the other” He was awarded the Lemonstreet Gallery Printing Award in 2001 also. In 2004 Shaw-Smith was Artist in Residence in Draíocht. €100-€150 (£90-£130 approx.) Click Here for Large Images & To Bid Lot 240
