THE SUMMER SALE - 9 JULY 2018 65 Vincent Browne (b.1947) THE WARRIOR welded metal and bronze on stone base 20 by 26 by 27in. (50.8 by 66 by 68.6cm) Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist’s studio by the present owner Set into stone base, dimensions 13.5 by 5 by 4in. Vincent Browne was prize winner at the Dublin Millennium Sculpture Competition in 1988 and has been exhibiting in Ireland since the early 1980s. His comically charged sculpture is best represented in the public realm with works such as, Mr. Screen (the bronze usher formerly located outside what was The Screen Cinema, on Hawkins Street, Dublin) and the bronze Palm Tree Seat in Temple Bar. Browne won the Oireachtas Gold Medal for sculpture three times (1974, 1985, 1986); the Waterford Glass Prize (1992); and several grants and awards from the Arts Council and the Department of Foreign Affairs. His Maritime Piece in Wicklow town won the Concrete Society of Ireland Sculpture Award in 1993. He is a member of Aosdána.
