83 Rowan Gillespie (b.1953) HATE AND HOPE, 2000 bronze; (no. 1 from an edition of 9) signed, numbered and dated 18 by 20.50in. (45.7 by 52.1cm) Provenance: Acquired from the artist by AIB; Purchased at a charity auction approximately 10-12 years ago by the present owner The present work relates to the artist’s Hate and Hope Series and, in particular, to the later work Hope and History, 2002 (edition of 9) featured in Rowan Gillespie, Looking for Orion (O’Brien Press, Dublin 2007, p.119). The author describes how the bronze element of work “…gives a little hope, as the confinement… is split to release tension. The ring of oppression has been broken.” In the later version of this work the bronze element is elevated on a tall narrow stone base. The raised bronze is intended to express a sense of hope. We are grateful to the artist for his kind assistance in cataloguing this lot. €6,000-€ 8,000 (£5,310-£7,080 approx.) Click Here for Large Images & To Bid Lot 83
