1916 Rising 140 1914 Howth Gun Running, 1896 model Swedish Mauser bayonet carried by Volunteer and All-Ireland referee Patrick Joseph Dunphy. The knife bayonet made by Eskilstuna Iron Manufacturing, Inc. in steel scabbard and leather frog. Accompanied by a letter from Patrick J Dunphy’s grandson. Provenance: By descent to Patrick J Bourke, a grandson of Patrick J Dunphy. Purchased by the current owner from Patrick J Bourke. Patrick Joseph Dunphy is now best remembered for appearing in a photograph with Michael Collins and Harry Boland, each holding hurleys, he was a keen football and hurling referee and was the man in the middle for six All Ireland Football Finals, including five in a row between 1915 and 1919.
