1916 Rising 145 Cumann na mBan ‘uniform’ with Inginíde na h-Éireann (Daughters of Ireland) bronze brooch. An early 20th century military-style tunic and skirt with brass buttons centred with a harp, a bronze Inginide na h-Eireann (Daughters of Ireland) brooch stitched to lapel; black felt hat and black boots. Used by members of the National Graves Association in commemoration ceremonies. Provenance: Collection Mr Patrick O’Hagan, Belfast. Exhibited: Roddy McCorley museum. Inginide na h-Eireann was established on Easter Sunday 1900. Its aims were the study of the Irish language and the promotion of Irish Literature, Music, Art and History. It can be regarded as the forerunner of Cumann na mBan. Maud Gonne was its first President. Estimate €200-€300 (approx £170-£260) Click Here for Large Images & To Bid 146 147 1916 Rising, South Dublin Union, death of Nurse Kehoe, witness statement. 1916 (May 18) A signed copy of a statement by Joseph Dwyer, made to the Official Enquiry held into the shooting, at the South Dublin Union on Easter Monday 1916, of Nurse Margaret Kehoe. Three pages, octavo, on South Dublin Union notepaper. In this statement Joseph describes the events leading up to her death and claims that he heard “a click on the handle of the glass door, the officer ordered a soldier to fire and Nurse Kehoe fell forward and he (Joseph) ran down to lift her”. He later identified the officer who gave the order. The statement challenges the long held official narrative and several other accounts regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.
