IMPORTANT IRISH ART · 27 MAY AT 6PM 49 Ebba von Essen Hamilton (d. 2015) WOMAN IN AWALLED GARDEN, 1949 oil on canvas signed and dated lower left 20 by 18in. (50.8 by 45.7cm) Born in Sweden, Ebba von Essen studied painting in Stockholm (1942-1947) and Copenhagen, before travelling to Paris where she enrolled at the Académie de Beaux Arts. She also worked during 1949 in the studio of André Lhote, as did many Irish artists including Mainie Jellett and Evie Hone. Upon her marriage to Count Axel Hamilton, she settled in 1976 in Banagher Co. Offaly, where she continued to paint. She died in Lund, Sweden in 2015. €800-€1,200 (£690-£1,030 approx.)
