Painted white for use by emergency services such as ambulance, Civil Defence etc. Condition: Considerable loss of white paint, slight rust, good. This coal scuttle” shape helmet, although made by Vickers in the UK, was similar in appearance to German helmets, and during WorldWar II was a source of criticism by British media commenting on Irish neutrality. This may have been why it was replaced by the British Mark II type in 1940 and the Vickers helmets were painted white and issued to emergency services.
