172 History 320 1970 (9 November). An oar from a Soviet Union Navy lifeboat, launched after a collision with the Royal Navy Ark Royal. The oar was recovered after a controversial collision in the Mediterranean Sea between the aircraft carrier and a Kotlin Class destroyer No. 365. With Daily Telegraph report and Noah’s News (Ark Royal newsletter) 18 December 1970 which includes accounts of the incident from both Royal Navy and Soviet Navy. Soviet Navy destroyer 365; Rev. Kenneth King, Royal Navy Chaplain to HMS Ark Royal; Thence by descent to the previous owner who has donated it to the present owner, SSAFA chariity. Condition: Very good.
