A large archive of letters from Republican prisoners in Long Kesh (Maze) in 8 albums (approx. 1000 items) Includes IRA commanding officer notices, HM Prison notices, photographs, visitor permits, art, prisoner made greetings cards, etc. Senders include Liam Coyle, John Gibney, Eoghan McCormack, Des O’Hagan, P Girvan, Gabriel Hicks, Gerard O’Hara, Saoirse Eoghain, including many smuggled letters written on small pieces of paper such as cigarette papers, tissues, etc. Also included are letters relating to the prisoners including one from Cardinal Fee, Roman Catholic Primate of Ireland, also impounded letters, cards, booklets, etc., returned to prisoners on their release. A fascinating collection, mostly to Pádraig Ó Mathúna, Cashel, detailing daily life in the camp, protests including the Blanket and Hunger strikes.
