In an amusing letter Shaw refers to “Major”Dick Pigott: “His routine was to drink himself almost to death, at which point he would write a recklessly seditious article in his paper The Irishman and get six months for it. The compulsory abstinence this enforced restored his health and enabled him to begin again”. Complete with envelope in Shaw’s hand. Donated to Society of St Vicent de Paul, and offered on the Society’s behalf. Condition: Very good.
