A Map of Proposed Extensions of The Royal Canal By John Killaly. Engraved, uncoloured, showing the proposed extension from Thomastown near Kinnegad to Lough Erne via Belturbet, 2.5 miles per inch, includes improvements on the River Shannon proposed by Mr Jessop. Collection of Ernie O’Malley; Thence by descent. Condition: Very good. John Killaly was a surveyor and engineer who worked on several canal projects in Ireland in the late eighteenth century. Most of his so-called ‘land plans’ are in the care of Waterways Ireland, whilst a plaque to his memory can be seen at the Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre.
