(86.4 by 147.3cm) Liam Belton is a Dublin artist born into a family of printers and painters. His father, Paul Belton, also an artist, opened the Cavendish Gallery in Dublin in the 1950s. Belton studied at the National College of Art from 1966 to 1972 and was very active in student politics. He was a founder of an art college in Temple Bar and established free art classes in Ballyfermot and Ballymun as well as teaching art to the visually impaired for over two decades. Belton set up Friends of the Academy, an initiative designed to promote artists’ welfare at the RHA; an institution to which he was elected member in 1991.
