The style and pose of the figure in this work has parallels with the artist’s work in oil from 1944 titled The Birth of David which was shown at ‘An Exhibition of Recent Works by Colin Middleton’, CEMA Northern Ireland, 1945-46, no. 6 and at the Associated American Artists, New York in 1947.
