160 150 Basil Ivan Rákóczi (1908-1979) LAMPPOST, FORNALUTX, MALLORCA, 1972 ink and watercolour; (unframed) signed and dated lower right; inscribed, signed and dated in pencil on reverse 12.50 by 9.75in. (31.8 by 24.8cm) Condition: Colours remain strong. Paper in good condition. Remnants of tapes marks visible to verso. Unframed. Fornalutx is a small village on the west of the island near the town of Sóller. Rákóczi had a tiny studio/ house there. He spent his summers for the last 10 years or so of his life there. The village square had one food shop and two (rivalrous) cafes. The present work was painted in late August / early September and is one of a pair - also entitled ‘Fornalutx’ - and untraced.
