Provenance: Solomon Gallery, Dublin, 2007; Private collection Exhibited: ’Collectibles Exhibition’, Solomon Gallery, Dublin, 7-30 October 2007 Born in Kilkenny, Doherty studied architecture at Bolton Street Technical College before travelling to Australia in 1973. He lived in Sydney for five years then moved to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, where he was artist-in-residence at the National College of Art. His first solo exhibition was held in Sydney, at the Coventry Gallery (1977). Other notable Australian solo shows have been held at the Rex Irwin Gallery (1978), Robin Gibson Gallery (1992) and the Australian Galleries (2000). During the early 1980s he was a frequent exhibitor in group shows at the Taylor Galleries in Dublin; they also gave him his first Irish solo exhibition in 1981. Since then Doherty has shown his work widely in solo and group exhibitions in both Ireland and Australia, most recently in Disconnect, a three-person exhibition at Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre (2015). He continues to be represented by the Taylor Galleries in Dublin and his work can be found in numerous private collections in Ireland, Australia, America and Europe, and also features in the public collections of the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; Institute of Modern Art, Chicago; Irish National Stud; IMMA; AIB Dublin and London; and Artbank, Sydney. €15,000-€20,000 (£13,330-£17,780 approx.)
