124 Militaria 289 1854-1855 The Baltic Medal. Unnamed, as issued. Condition: Digs on obverse and reverse near 9 o’clock, light edge knock at 6 o’clock, couple of light scratches, fine. The Baltic Medal was a campaign medal approved on 6 June 1856, for issue to officers and men of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, and Royal Sappers and Miners who served between March 1854 and August 1855 in the Baltic Sea operations against Russia during the Crimean War, also known as the AlandWar. Estimate €150-€200 (approx £130-£170) Click here for more images and to bid on this lot 289 290 1854 Indian General Service Medal with Delhi bar for the Indian Mutiny, to Bengal European Fusiliers (afterwards Royal Munster Fusiliers). Inscribed to Pte. W. Rankin 2nd Bn. Ben. Eur. Fus. Condition: Very fine. On the outbreak of the Indian Rebellion the regiment marched on Delhi. The regiment went on to take part in the Capture of Lucknow in March 1858. Five members of the regiment were awarded the Victoria Cross for their actions during the rebellion. After the Crown took control of the Presidency armies in the aftermath of the Indian Rebellion, the regiment became the 1st Bengal Fusiliers in November 1859 and then the 1st Royal Bengal Fusiliers in May 1861. It was then renumbered as the 101st Regiment of Foot (Royal Bengal Fusiliers) on transfer to the British Army in September 1862 On 1 July 1881 the Childers Reforms came into effect and the regiment amalgamated with the 104th Regiment of Foot (Bengal Fusiliers) to form the Royal Munster Fusiliers Estimate €200-€300 (approx £170-£260) Click here for more images and to bid on this lot 290 291 1854 Indian General Service Medal with Burma 1887-89 bar to Norfolk Regiment.
