F. ). 1836 Engraved map, coloured in outline, 80 by 63cm, on paper, on two sheets, mounted on linen and folding to 8vo, tipped into the original calf-backed plain cloth boards, with leather label, gilt, wanting the cloth ties : in very good state. Also (1) EUROPE, CENTRAL, MAP, 1824 : - Weiland ( Carl F. ). Attractive engraved map, 83 by 69cm, on paper, dissected and mounted on linen and folding to 8vo, with the contemporary signature ‘Lord Bloomfield’ : in nice state.(2) EUROPE, MAP, 1843. Map of the Central States of Europe, situate between France and Russia, describing their new limits conformably with the definitive treaty of peace, signed at Paris, November 20th 1815. (A map of the theatre of war in Poland). Jas. Wyld, Jany. 1, 1843. A fine large engraved map, on two sheets, measuring approximately 48 by 50 inches overall, in attractive contemporary hand-colouring, mounted on linen and folding to roy 8vo in the original ribbed cloth slip-case. George Allen, London, 1894. Original dark green gilt, with peacock decorations. Scarce and attractive. Condition: Slight bumps to spine top and bottom edges, edges of pages toned, otherwise fine. Hugh Thomson RI (1860-1920) was an Irish Illustrator born at Coleraine, Co. Derry. He is best known for his pen-and-ink illustrations of works by authors such as Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and J. M. Barrie. Thomson inaugurated the Cranford School of illustration with the publication of the 1891 Macmillan reissue of Mrs. Gaskell’s Cranford.
