209 THE ECLECTIC COLLECTOR - TIMED ON-LINE AUCTION 1 MAY - 15/16 MAY 2021 Sport 530 Horseracing. 1967 Arkle, x-rays by his vet, James F Kavanagh MRCVS. (20) Twenty x-ray plates documenting the great racehorse’s career- ending injury to his pedal bone, from initial diagnosis in January 1967 until December that year. Frontal and side views of the injury over a twelve month period, many clearly showing the fracture to Arkle’s hoof, sustained in December 1966 in the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park. When jumping the open ditch, Arkle struck the guard rail with a hoof, fracturing the pedal bone, but he still finished second. Ten large plates and ten small. The larger 11.25 by 10in. (28.6 by 25.4cm) Condition: Very fine, no apparent faults. Provenance: X-rays taken under the supervision of James F Kavanagh. By descent to the current owner. Portrait of Charles Brownlow, Baron Lurgan and his dog, Master McGrath by Andrew MacClure. A fine monochrome print. Master McGrath is regarded widely as the greatest ever greyhound, having won the Waterloo Cup three times - 1868, 1869 and 1871. Also with this lot a Cecil Aldin coloured lithograph of The Cottesmore Hunt. Both unframed. 24 by 17in. (61 by 43.2cm) Condition: Portrait with tears around the edges and title scuffed but will frame well; Aldin slightly soiled and some slight foxing, good.
