88 Civil War 195 1922 (13 February and 12 December) Civil War period“Warning” letters from Anti-Treaty IRA to a business in Blackrock. A typescript warning (carbon copy from“ÓGLAÍGH NA H-ÉIREANN (Irish Republican Army)” dated 12.12. (19)22, ordering the recipient to cease from supplying goods to “any section of the Imperial forces at present at war with the Irish Republic, including the British Army, Free State Army, Civil Guard etc. Failure to comply.. with entail serious consequences .’’With a covering manuscript note, unsigned but said to be fromWilliam T. Crawford, managing director of Blackrock Hosiery Co. (Dublin), saying ‘Oriel House [headquarters of the Free State Army Intelligence Department and the Criminal Investigation Department] do not regard it as serious and I personally am not anxious. But destruction of our premises and stock would not be a very difficult operation,’ and mentioning a resumption of delivery of goods for the Army. A further I.R.A. message dated “13.2.1923”warning same recipient to discontinue supplying goods to the Free State Government or Army, on pain of confiscation of goods,’ and with a pencilled draft reply (to I.R.A.) explaining that if supply is stopped, the Free State can easily obtain these goods from England, leading only to a loss of employment in Ireland, and asking if that is really what they want. In two frames. Total of 5 pages, each 7.50 by 5.50in. (19.1 by 14cm) Condition: The 12 December 1922 typescript faint but legible, otherwise very good.
