The daughter of a Lancashire cotton printer, Pamela Drew studied art in London before marrying an Irish peer, Lord Rathdonnell of Rathvilly, Co. Carlow, in 1937. They returned to live in Ireland until WWII, when Pamela joined the ‘Wrens’, working with the RAF Coastal Command in Plymouth. This led to her painting numerous works of an aviating theme and eventually, in 1955, the British Air Ministry granted her the status of war artist. Her husband died unexpectedly in 1959 and two years later Drew re-married another Irishman, Major Hugh Carruthers Massy of Ballinatray, Youghal, Co. Cork. Her paintings today are sadly little known and rarely appear at auction. €150-€200 (£130-£170 approx.) Click here for more images and to bid on this lot141
