171 SUMMER ONLINE ART AUCTION - ENDS Monday 14 June 2021 from 6PM 165 Darius Joseph MacEgan (1856-1939) MERRION STRAND, DUBLIN oil on board signed lower left; titled and numbered [4] on original label no reverse; also with artist’s name and price [£10-0-0] in pencil on reverse 8 by 10.50in. (20.3 by 26.7cm) Frame Dimensions: 12.5 by 15in. (31.8 by 38.1cm) Surface dirt visible throughout. Otherwise good condition. Also known as “The MacEgan” (he was the last of a line of direct descendants of the clan MacEgan), Darius was born in Roscrea, Co. Tipperary. He studied at the School of Art in Dublin and later in London, and first exhibited at the RHA in 1881. The Gorry Gallery held a memorial exhibition of his work in 1940. MacEgan widely exhibited throughout his life. Views of Merrion Strand were exhibited by him in 1923, no. 188 [£3-3-0] and in 1933 no. 149 [£2-0-0] at the Dublin Sketching Club and in 1921 at the RHA, no. 171 [£8-8-0]. €300-€500 (£260-£430 approx.)
