From an early age he showed promise as an artist. He had his first exhibition aged fourteen and two years later he had an exhibition in Dublin’s Combridges Gallery during Horse Show week in 1971. In England Curling won an art scholarship to Millfield College, London, after which he went to Italy. There he studied with the celebrated Signorina Nera Simi in Florence from 1972 to 1974 and later for a brief period under John Skeaping RA in France. Curling returned to Ireland in 1975 and has lived ever since in County Tipperary with his artist wife Louise Wood. Curling has exhibited regularly with the Tryon Gallery in London - the present work was acquired there in 1987 - and also in the USA in Saratoga and Kentucky. In 2010 an exhibition of his work was held at the Sladmore Gallery in London. He has also shown work at the RHA, Dublin and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in London. In recent years he has diversified, painting landscapes and portraits as well as venturing into the world of literature with his published novel, Drawing the Line. €30,000-€40,000 (£25,860-£34,480 approx.)
