Whyte's IMPORTANT IRISH ART 6 MARCH 2023 AT 6PM

110 87 Piet Sluis (1929-2008) ILLUSRATIONS FOR AN CHEARC BY GABRIEL ROSENSTOCK (UNPUBLISHED) (SET OF TWENTY-SEVEN) ink, watercolour and mixed-media; (27); (unframed) variously signed 11 by 13in. (27.9 by 33cm) Gabriel Rosenstock writes: Piet Sluis made charming, captivating illustrations for a number of my picture books for children, all published by An Gúm. These were four retellings of lesser-known Irish folk tales, in Irish: Ordóigín; An Phéist Mhór; Naomh Pádraig agus Crom Dubh and Páidín Mháire Mhuigín. I asked Piet to illustrate a bilingual story I had written, An Chearc/ The Hen. The illustrations were sheer magic but we never got the book published as planned. I later published a digital and audio version with another artist, firstly on the Léigh Leat platform and subsequently on Lulu. The story is about a lost hen called Uaigneach (Lonely), who is adopted by two children. The hen gets lost a second time - or has she gone back to Henland? €4,000-€6,000 (£3,540-£5,310 approx.)
