34 24 Paul Henry RHA (1876-1958) LANDSCAPE, CONNEMARA, 1940s oil on canvas laid on board signed lower right 14.75 by 19in. (37.5 by 48.3cm) Frame Size: 22 by 26in. (55.9 by 66cm) Provenance: Adam’s, 30 May 2000, lot 42; Private collection; Whyte’s, 23 February 2015, lot 17; Private collection Possibly a scene on the Atlantic Drive, Achill Island, although of this one cannot be certain. The heavy impasto employed in the foreground and in the clouds is relatively uncommon in Paul Henry’s oeuvre, although the evenly applied paint on the rest of the painting is typical of his work. Again, characteristic of Henry, the composition was almost certainly based on sketches made earlier. Dated to the 1940s on stylistic grounds, Landscape, Connemara is numbered 1290 in S. B.
