18 History 23 1798. The Great Rebellion. Lawyers & Attorney’s Cavalry Dublin, officer’s cross belt plate. Oval white metal, FOR KING AND COUNTRY A [crown] C 1796. On reverse: ‘Mr. Barlon’. Extremely rare. 3 by 2.50in. (7.6 by 6.4cm) Condition: Extremely fine. On 24 June 1798 Major - General William Myers rallied over 700 yeomen at St Stephen’s Green drawn from the Lawyers and Attorney’s Cavalry , the Loyal Dublin Cavalry and the Rotunda , and proceeded to County Wicklow to put down the rebels. A set of engravings by George Cruikshank (21) This was a set of uncoloured prints drawn and engraved by Cruikshank, published in 1845 sold separately from Maxwell’s book in which most of these illustrations appear. Subjects include Defeat Of The Rebels At Vinegar Hill, The Rebels Executing Their Prisoners, Batttle of Ross etc. 5 by 7in. (12.7 by 17.8cm) Condition: Poor to good, generally fair, mostly affected by damp and wormholes, but a useful reference set.
