Published October 28th 1811 by Walker and Knight, Cornhill. It depicts Richard Brinsley Sheridan being barrelled out of the theatre in a wheel barrow along with comments from the other observers, several with mock Irish captions. Original colouring. 8.50 by 13in. (21.6 by 33cm) Condition: Slight soiling, fresh colours, very good, not framed. The prize consists of a bronze statuette reproducing the recognisable image of Giacomo Puccini, as depicted by Paolo Trubetzkoy in the statue located since 1949 on the square in Torre del Lago, in front of Puccini’s villa. Among the recipients were Maria Callas (posthumously), Dame Gwyneth Jones, Luciano Pavorotti, Woody Allen and Andrea Bocelli. The Puccini Prize is awarded every year during the “Mese Pucciniano”, the winter festival promoted by the Puccini Festival Foundation Since 1983, the Award was extended to publishing, discography, cinematography, young promises of the lyric theatre and personalities from the world of national and international culture.
