Includes letter to the Keeper of the Public Prison in Carlow, statements, petitions, two Confessions of James Coogan to armed robbery and arson naming collaborators, ‘calendars’ of prisoners in custody, jail orders, invoices to Jail Committee for repairs in the jail to treadmill, lanterns, bolts, account from nurse for attendance per Dr Reed in Jail Infirmary, pair of shoes for a convict, white washing the jail, list of supplies to jail in 1824, including gruel, lemons and apples, statement from Thomas Kirwin, Governor of the Jail, regarding the escape of James Kinsella in 1821, lists of Jury members to try prisoners from Carlow Jail, a schedule of prisoners who were tried and convicted 1822, debtors in custody 1814, Directive from Dublin Castle 1803, discharging a prisoner, inquest into the death of a prisoner, John McGhee, signed by magistrates and 12 jurors whose verdict was death by Exhaustion. Largest size: 14.12 by 12in. (35.9 by 30.5cm) Condition: Mainly very good, some soiling on one. The Queen writes to Wellington in his capacity as Commander-in- Chief of the Army, acknowledging receipt of his letter of 21st inst., and approves of the “proposed distribution of good service money”. Single sheet, folded, in the hand of a secretary. 7 by 5in. (17.8 by 12.7cm) Condition: Very good, slight splitting.
