As flown by Home Rule supporters, the Irish Parliamentary Party and Irish Volunteers up to 1916, when it was replaced by the tricolour. 18 by 36in. (45.7 by 91.4cm) Condition: Very good Estimate €200-€300 (approx £180-£260) Click here for more images and to bid on this lot 88 89 19th century ‘Maid of Erin’ flag and a British Red Ensign Both on poles for holding by hand. Maker’s stamp ‘Ellis’. Thought to have been used at one of queen Victoria’s visits to Ireland. The ‘Maid of Erin’ yellow on blue background, the latter to represent St. Patrick’s colour. This design and colour was, and is still, incorporated into the UK Royal Standard. From the mid 19th century nationalists adapted the design but on a field of green. Scarce. 54 by 26in.
