Gladstone in his hand. This is a correspondence to diplomat Charles K Tuckerman, both concerning Ireland. The postcard mentions a speech by Gladstone concerning Home Rule and the exclusion of Irish members, declaring his commitment to the legal path to reform and compares the “crimes” in Ireland to those of England and Scotland. The letter which states “no questions are more embarrassing than those which relate to Irish history” and advises Tuckerman to read O’Connell’s memoir of 1844 to get a “birds eye account” of the early period. The postcard 5.5 by 3.5 in., the letter 7 by 4.50in. (17.8 by 11.4cm) Condition: Fine, a few adhesions to the address side of the postcard . Charles Keating Tuckerman (March 11, 1827 – February 26, 1896) was an American diplomat, author and the first American ambassador to Greece.
