68 History 127 1905 (10 July) Witness statements concerning deserters arrested at Castlecomer. Fred Hall and Edward Evans arrested by R.I.C. Constable Michael McDonagh as deserters from 4th Lancashire Fusiliers D. Company. Constable McDonagh, who was stationed at Graiguecullen Barracks stated that he met the two men who were dressed in plain clothes on the Castlecomer Road but that he recognised from their gait and general appearance they were deserters from the British Army. He requests that they be held in Kilkenny Jail before handing them over to military custody. Three Statements from Colour Sergeant Thomas Perkins of C. Company 8th Battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps regarding EdwardWoods, a soldier in the 8th Batt. K.R.R. Corps, who assaulted Perkins and caused him to break his hand in defending himself. 12 by 8in.
