Written by Wilfred Bamford of Kells, Co. Meath in 7 Letts No. 26 diaries dated 1914, 1915, 1916, 1917, 1920, 1921 and 1922. Some interesting content, such as 2 May “According to today’s papers [apparentlya week out of date] Dublin Rebellion has had its back broken”. A good orginal source for ordinary life in an extraordinary war zone. Condition: Very good, some covers showing heavy wear but contents excellent and all very legible. Wilfred Clifford Bamford of Kells was born in 1893 and joined the army from college in 1914 as a driver in the Army Service Corps. Posted to France within a month, he was promoted to Sergeant 3 months later and commissioned Lieutenant in 1916. Apart from leave he spent much of the war at the front line and left the army in 1919. He survived the Great War and later, during WorldWar II in 1940, survived a German U-Boat torpedo attack on a ship which he was a passenger. He died in 1980, aged 86.
