22 11 William Osborne RHA (1823-1901) THE CATCH oil on canvas signed with monogram lower left; indistinctly inscribed on reverse 18 by 14in. (45.7 by 35.6cm) Frame Size: 30 by 26in. (76.2 by 66cm) Born in Dublin and educated at the Royal Hibernian Academy schools, Osborne began exhibiting in 1851. From the outset he established himself as an animal painter, specialising in horses and dogs. Elected an Associate of the RHA in 1854 and a full member in 1869, he was a regular exhibitor there, earning a reputation as the prime animal portraitist of his day and winning numerous commissions around the country.
