197 SUMMER ONLINE ART AUCTION TIMED AUCTION - Ends Monday 10 July 2023 from 6PM 193 Basil Ivan Rákóczi (1908-1979) IN THE BEGINNING: ILLUSTRATIONS FOR THE BOOK OF GENESIS, 1961 folio of hand-printed etchings; (16); (no. 48 from an edition of 50) each etching signed and numbered; signed again by the artist, by the printer Marita Van der Poest Clément and by Alexandre Sarrés on introduction page 16.75 by 12.50in. (42.5 by 31.8cm) Published by Friends of the White Stag (White Stag Press). 50 copies were hand-printed on Velin dArches paper, signed by the artist and numbered 1-50. Seven extra copies, containing five original proofs of the illustrations printed on Japanese Torinoko Kozo paper, were marked A to G. Three printers copies marked X, XX and XXX have been reserved by the collaborators in the creation of this folio. The hand-printing was done by Marita van der Poest Clement, the composition and the lay out were executed by Alexander Sarres. The black and white etchings and the facsimile writing of the text, taken from the King James Version of the Bible, were made by Basil Ivan Rakoczi. The original drawings were done by Rakoczi.
