Mossop. Eimer 1098. BHM 953. Rare. Provenance: Alain Chawner, Barronstown House auction, 26 November, 1980, ex Lot 176; Tom Ryan Collection. Condition: Very fine. Eimer writes: Sir Charles Lewis Metzlervon Gieseke (1761-1833) German actor, musician, explorer, and geologist. Whilst returning to England from Greenland his ship was captured and the mineral specimens which he had gathered were sold off. The medal was struck by the Royal Society Dublin, where he was Professor of Mineralogy and Director of its museum.
