(39.4 by 69.9cm) Provenance: Presented by the artist to Mrs Irene Calvert MP in 1951 together with a pot of geraniums matching the crimson in the picture; Thence by descent; Whyte’s, 24 November 2014, lot 145; Private collection A rare early work by Markey from the collection of a well-known patron of the arts in Ulster in the early 1950s. It was following, and partly as a result of this commission, that the artist was commissioned to paint the then Governor of Northern Ireland, LordWakehurst. €3,000-€4,000 (£2,560-£3,420 approx.)
